marmolejo bw

María Evelia Marmolejo was born in Colombia in 1958, and currently lives and works in New York. She is one of the most radical performance artists that emerged in the 1980s from Latin America. The political and feminist work by Marmolejo began in the late 1970s in Cali, Colombia. In her work, the female body plays a very important role, which helps address the socio-political issues relevant to Latin America and the world in general. Marmolejo's work has been shown both inside and outside art institutions, often taking place in isolated areas, far from public view, and others in public places with or without consent of authority. María Evélia Marmolejo was nominated by Rosina Cazali.
