Emerging Artist Grant

Wb Illich Castillo

Ilich Castillo organizes, collects or places anomalies in diverse systems that seem to possess certain patterns of behavior or uncertain internal logics. Within these exercises of observation, the artist raises the possibility of thinking the accidental as a loophole to access an underlying perception of our experience with the world. Castillo is a member of the collective LaLimpia (2001-2014) and the laboratory Brigade de Dinujantes (2012-present). He studied Visual Arts at ITAE (2004-2010) and obtained his degree at the Casa Grande University (2014).

Additionally, he has participated in more than 10 residences and workshops. He has held individual exhibitions in cities such as Guayaquil, Quito, Cuenca, Bogotá, Colombia, and Santander, Spain. He has participated in more than 30 international exhibitions in countries including the United States, Germany, France, Spain, Romania, Croatia, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Perú, and Guatemala.
