Emerging Artist Award

Rubén D’Hers (b. Venezuela). Lives and works in Berlin.

D’Hers holds a MFA in Sound Studies from the Berlin University of Arts, a BFA in Media Art & Design from the Bauhaus University Weimar.

“My work focuses on the creation of sound spaces that emerge from musical instruments and tunable domestic objects. These spaces are the result of tuning processes that start from an abstract musical axis as well as the representation of the acoustic reality of the external world. Both concepts are applied in the production of sound installations and compositions through acoustic and mechanical means fundamentally.”

“My recent work explores the notion of representation and imitation of sounds belonging to the sound landscape, particularly of the domestic environment. Through its analysis at the spectral level, I obtain information that is then transposed to acoustic and mechanical means in terms of tuning and tone. These works explore the possibility of direct representation of the acoustic reality of elements of the sound landscape in which we are immersed.” – Rubén D’Hers.
