Dedicated arts philanthropist and champion of emerging artists Manuel de Santaren joins the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation leadership

Miami, Florida – February 8, 2017- The Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) has recently appointed Manuel de Santaren as their new President. 


Manuel de Santaren comes to CIFO with extensive experience as a patron of the arts. Based in Boston, Washington DC and Miami, de Santaren has been active in arts-related philanthropic activities for the last several decades.

As a collector of performance, new media and time-based works, de Santaren has championed and supported the careers of many emerging artists throughout the world, with a comprehensive collection that has travelled to exhibitions in numerous international museum venues.

De Santaren also co-chairs the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum’s Photography Council, where he and his committee have worked in close collaboration with the curatorial team over the past twelve years to grow and expand the museum’s permanent collection in both photography and video works. Additionally, De Santaren has been actively engaged on the advisory boards of The Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University.

As president, Manuel is responsible for the day-to-day management decisions, as well as the leadership of board meetings, appointment of committees, and completion of other duties as directed by the bylaws.

As Founder & Honorary President, Ella Fontanals-Cisneros remains on the Board and will also offer counsel and advice to the current president.

Ella Fontanals-Cisneros established the non-profit Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO), in 2002. The foundation’s mission is to support and foster cultural understanding, as well as an educational dialog among Latin American artists and global audiences. CIFO is a platform for emerging, mid-career and established Latin American artist through the Grants & Commissions Program, the CIFO Collection, the CIFO Art Space and other related art and cultural projects in the United States of America and internationally.
