Beatriz Milhazes

Beatriz Milhazes is a Brazilian artist who lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. She is known for juxtaposing Brazilian cultural imagery and references to Western Modernist painting. Her vibrantly colorful, kaleidoscopic collages, prints, paintings and installations draw on both Latin American and European traditions. Milhazes’ paintings are in the permanent collections of many renowned institutions and she represented Brazil at the 2003 Venice Biennial. Recent solo exhibitions include Jardim Botanico (2014) at the Perez Art Museum Miami, curated by Tobias Ostrander, and Meu Bem (2013) at Paco Imperiale, Rio de Janeiro, which also traveled to Curitiba and was curated by Frederic Paul.
