Oscar Muñoz
The work of Oscar Muñoz (Popayán, Colombia, 1951) includes vital elements like water, light, and mist as metaphors or as a support for the image. With non-traditional techniques, he questions the notion of reality and time. He goes from drawing, to precision in stroke and two-dimensional formats to a dynamic experimentation with different resources.

Collective exhibitions: VI Bienal de La Habana, Cuba (1997); and the first Kwanju Internacional Biennale, Kwanju, South Korea (1994). In 2004 he received the First Prize from the Salón Nacional de Artistas, Colombia and in 2005 he participated in the 51st Venice Biennale, and the Prague Biennale for Contemporary Art. In 2006 he participated in Analog Animation at the Drawing Center in New York, and in Estrecho Dudoso at the Museo de arte Contemporáneo. San José, Costa Rica. In 2007 his Narcisos was acquired by the Tate Modern, where he presents his work in the forum: Global Photography Now, Latinamérica. He is invited to form part of the Auckland Trienal: Turbulence, Auckland, New Zealand and Heterotopias. First Contemporary Art Biennale of Thessaloniki, The State Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki – Greece, and the 52nd International Art Exhibition Venice Biennale. Venice, Italy, Think with the Senses– Feel with the Mind. In 2008 he participated in Art is for the spirit: Works from the UBS Art Collection at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, Japan, and in 4 other exhibitions at the MUAC (Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo – MUAC, Mexico City)titled El reino de Coloso. El lugar del asedio en la época de la imagen. In 2009 in Traces of Time at the Herzlylla Museum of Contemporary Art in Herzlylla, Israel. Silent. From the Hiroshima MOCA. Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art, he earned the Grand Prize from the 14th Tallin Print Triennial in 2007 and the Prince Claus award in 2013.
In 2013, the Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango de Bogotá organized the exhibition Protografías that traveled through numerous museums in Medellín, and La Tertulia de Cali, el Museo MALBA de Buenos Aires, Museo MALI in Lima and in 2014 Jeu de Paume in París. He currently lives and works in Cali, Colombia.
